Prof. Marco Fraaije visited Syncom as part of our Dutch Design & Synthesis lectures. Prof. Fraaije presented his latest research focused on the engineering of oxidative enzymes to target chemical processes of industrial relevance.
Prof. Fraaije received his PhD from the University of Wageningen under the supervision of van Prof. Berkel and Prof. Laane. After a postdoctoral stay in the group of Prof. Mattevi (University of Pavia), he joined the University of Groningen in 1999 as an assistant professor. He started his independent carrier at the University of Groningen, where he became Associate Professor in 2007 and Full Professor in 2012.
Marco Fraaije leads the Enzyme Engineering and Identification of Oxidative Enzymes work package of the ROBOX project (Expanding the Industrial use of Robust Oxidative Biocatalysts for the Conversion and Production of Alcohols) funded by the European Horizon2020 programme. He is also the coordinator of the H2020-ITN training network OXYTRAIN and has recently been awarded the prestigious Vici grant from the NWO.
